Beginning Thursday, Sept. 20, and running through the week of the national election, the Gephardt Institute for Public Service is offering “Issues and Ideas: Election 2012,” a series of evening panel discussions on a range of political issues and topics.

The National Institutes of Health has awarded more than $2 million to a team of scientists from Washington University and InvivoSciences, a biotechnology startup with WUSTL roots, to construct artificial tissue models that will allow the rapid testing of new drugs for heart failure.

Pianist and conductor William Schatzkamer, professor emeritus of music in Arts & Sciences, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, of congestive heart failure at his home in Olivette. He was 96.

WUSTL will test its emergency communication system, WUSTLAlerts, at approximately 12:35 p.m. today. For this test, WUSTLAlerts will send emails to @wustl.edu addresses and text messages to cell phones.
Two new executive education courses bring together experts from across the Danforth Campus to explore emerging concepts that will impact the future of industries, economies and the environment. The two-day and three-day seminars are set for October.

The No. 9 women’s soccer team posted a 2-1 record a week ago, playing all three contests on the road. WUSTL (5-1) plays its fourth straight road game tomorrow at Illinois Wesleyan University. Game time is 7 p.m.
